Yok Yor Thai

Yok Yor has been standing for months now and I had finally come to find it, nestled across Chili Cha Cha at Haymarket. The cooks were dressed as construction workers and they even wore those safety helmets. The place was rather small but comfy.

Spicy Pork Belly
This dish can be found in the ‘Rice’ section of the menu, the pork belly is the best compared to any other Thai restaurants I’ve tried; Spice I am, Home, Chat Thai. Or perhaps it was the spicy-ness that enhanced the dish’s flavour.

Gai Tod Hard Yai
The Southern fried seasoned chicken served with sweet chili sauce was my favorite. The chicken was tender on the inside and crisp on the outside and sprinkled with fried onion. The sweet chili sauce was mixed with chopped red onions.

Catfish
The catfish did not come out satisfying, although it was found in the ‘Chef’s recommendations’ section. The catfish had a lot of bones in it and you just have to tear each piece apart to get rid of the bones. Eating it was simply frustrating.

The next day, I went for a very late dinner at Yok Yor since my friend wanted to try it out. This time, I decided to call on for desserts after we finished eating the mains.

Thai tea ice cream with sweet potato
The ice cream was tasty especially with sweet potato cubes. It was sweet and you could feel the tea taste. Then, my friends and I noticed the place was packed with Chat Thai’s waitresses and waiters. They ordered all the delicious-looking foods, which were the ‘Specials’. We saw them ordering this mountain of chocolate and bread for dessert, which of course tempted our nosiness.

The Chocolate Volcano
Presenting the chocolate-milo (may I add) volcano with just a layer of white plain bread on the inside as its foundation base. The volcano was sculptured with thick chocolate ice cream and showered with loads of milo powder. Then two Twister chocolate stick biscuits were pierced in—-voila! A magnificent dessert creation, especially for chocolate lovers.
So you should watch out for the ‘Specials’ when you’re eating in Yok Yor, they are pasted on the walls at the left side of the place. No doubt about it, Chat Thai has got some competition, but the location of Yok Yor is kind of out of reach. Rather remote and unnoticeable, especially when there is real construction done outside it and this resulted in a barrier covering up the place. But this construction-site restaurant has got some serious drilling food for sure.
