The Eight Modern Chinese Restaurant on Urbanspoon

A1 Cafe & Restaurant

Ever heard of egg chiffon? I never did till I came into this restaurant. What I had pictured was chiffon cake with egg, but it was totally different. It was 3/4 cooked large-sized cake on top of rice with duck meat and pork.

They tasted excellent. My most favourite dish in Melbie.

The issue? This new restaurant, Lynn Shanghai cuisine, made a public statement that its dumplings, xiao long bao, is better than Din Tai Fung’s. Being a xiao long bao lover, I had to judge this case for myself. Finally, after days of thinking and trying to remember every single detailed evidences, the judiciary is over… and Lynn has won the case and my favoritism.

Although they did went head-to-head with the xiao long bao, Lynn’s portions were bigger and the taste had excelled Din Tai Fung’s by an inch. Not only were the food portions bigger but the service was just welcoming and warm.

Yum-cha/Dim Sum Time

Seven stomach-growling predators pouncing on one of the best Chinese food, DIM SUM. With a very very fierce appetite, Fooshion heads on for lunch at Sky Phoenix, Westfield CBD.

So there were seven of us, and once we were seated we did not hesitate to quickly choose the dumplings from the dumpling tray. One of us had to represent all of us in communicating with the lady waitress who was only fluent in speaking Chinese, the rest of us gave the thumbs up and downs. And so, we all started to dig in.

Shrimp on top of bread, fried into golden crisp.

Cheong Fan with char sui

Sio may

Deep fried wontons with shrimp

Mango pancake with sweet fluffy cream filling and mango cuts for dessert plus…

Mango pudding

There were other dumplings such as  Hakau (steamed shrimp in flour), Lo ma kai (fried raddish) and Wu Kok (taro dumpling). Overall, it was a tasty lunch but I’ve had better dumplings. Soon Fooshion will go back to its home country, Indonesia and watch out for amazing food-porn shoots that will chuck your eyes out ;)
