The issue? This new restaurant, Lynn Shanghai cuisine, made a public statement that its dumplings, xiao long bao, is better than Din Tai Fung’s. Being a xiao long bao lover, I had to judge this case for myself. Finally, after days of thinking and trying to remember every single detailed evidences, the judiciary is over… and Lynn has won the case and my favoritism.

Although they did went head-to-head with the xiao long bao, Lynn’s portions were bigger and the taste had excelled Din Tai Fung’s by an inch. Not only were the food portions bigger but the service was just welcoming and warm.

Singapore

3 days in Singapore to visit my grandfather. I went with my mum and she promised to accompany me conquer all the food and shopping that I crave for. I literally a list of almost everything that I wanted to do in Singapore during the flight.

King’s ice cream stand can be found on the streets of Orchard Road. This ice cream wrapped around a bread is an ultimate must in my list. The soft pink and green coloured bread is actually tasteless. My mum ordered her favourite Mint Chocolate chip and I ordered the Chocolate chip.

Afterwards, we head inside Takashimaya and after hours of shopping we went down to the Ground floor to look for some food.

Mackerel Fish Otah

Otah is always served with Nasi Lemak, but because I wanted to store my appetite for dinner at Newton. The otah was salty and very oily, it scared me for a bit but it was still tasty.

At night, my aunt joined us to dine in Newton.

Sugarcane ice drink

The sugarcane ice drink had always been drunk whenever I go to Newton, this was simply never missed. Its sweetness is just right if you ask for no sugar to be added.

Oyster Omelette

Ocien we call it and this dish had been my favourite till I tried it once more and this time, I must admit I wondered what happened to that flavour that defined Newton’s specialty. It is still crispy and the mixture of with egg is still right, perhaps I just grew less fond of oysters.

BBQ Chicken Rojak

My aunt had ordered the rojak that had BBQ chicken, cucumber, shredded lettuce and apples… and peanut sauce poured over it. The rojak tasted okay, I’ve had better.

Chili Stingray

The stingray that night did not disappoint me, it was still white soft in texture (its meat) and in taste and spicy.

Singapore Chili Crab

The crab was also very delicious that night.

Carrot cake

That night, I enjoyed the carrot cake a lot more than the ocien. However, an unfortunate event occurred, I got diarrhea. My stomach must have grown sensitive living in clean Australia. This was terrible.

Sergeant Hainan Chicken rice

The Sergeant chicken rice can be found in Ion’s food court, my cousin was the one who recommended it to me. The portion of meat was generous, and I loved every bit of its succulent chicken meat.

Raspberry King’s ice cream

One was not enough for me. I finally found another flavour that topples down my chocolate chip, raspberry.

On the second day, I forced my mum to go eat in Yoshinoya which is located in Takashimaya.

I was beyond pleased to see Yoshinoya had not change a bit, not even a single tiny bit. I had visited this place since I was 6 years old! The beef was still perfect, its chicken was still saucy and the rice was still as sticky as ever.

Alast on the third day our flight was in the afternoon and we didn’t have time to go around eating or shopping. This trip had been memorable. I shall miss my akong dearly and all the food.
