Dessert time! This was a traditional french dessert. The cherries were vanilla-coated and that circle lump is a mixture of chocolate and caramel with crispy and hard chocolate tart-like in the bottom. Inside the rich thick chocolate and caramel is an inner vanilla and strawberry sponge!

House, Surry Hills

Bored of Spice I am and Chat Thai? Try House at Surry Hills, a completely different side of Thai food. I could not explain what is the difference but my brother suggested that House’s dishes must be from another Thai province. It was raining heavily and continuously in Sydney, the wettest week since 1959 they say. But the rain did not inhibit hungry horses from trying out House.

The place had a nice veranda and an outdoor setting, but it was raining unfortunately so we were given a seat inside. The girls picked the orders while the guys just go with whatever we girls have chosen. We were sure to order the Egg Embryo soup and BBQ chicken which was recommended by a friend. Additionally, we also ordered the fried fish, spicy duck salad and sticky rice.

Sticky Rice Container

Our first dish was the spicy duck salad which was recommended by the waitress serving us that night. The taste was authentic ‘Thai-ish’ and was voted the most favourite by all of us who dined together that night.

The BBQ chicken was served and being a chicken lover like myself I dashed into the chance of ‘first-bite’. However, I was quite disappointed because I’ve tasted better chicken than this one. Then, the fish came out but I was not able to take a photo of it since everyone chomped their way barbarically after the dissatisfaction with the chicken.

Afterwards, finally the moment we’ve all been waiting for… the egg embryo tom yum soup.

The taste was scrumptious, a definite innovative creation of food. It is HIGHLY recommended for everyone who visits House to taste this marvelous chewiness. Finally, after finishing the mains, desserts came.

Vanilla Chocolate melted cake

For chocolate manias, you must indulge the chocolate melt of this dessert. The photo sure looks kind of weird, it was a bad angle I have to admit.

‘Better than Sex’ Dessert

This was the hit of the day. I loved every bit of it because the pandan ice cream was just right and soft, the toast was perfect and the ‘gula jawa’ was sweet at the right level. The epitome of the night suits its name after all.

For those of you who would like to try House, here’s the address: 102 Elizabeth St, Surry Hills. Enjoy!
